3.Installation:

When upgrading from a previous version, it is necessary to remove the old PalmRemote before installing the new one.
After downloading, unarchive the file into the some folder, and perform a hotsync of the file "remocp.prc".

If you have Palm III-X, you must change Prefs | General | Beam Receive setting to "ON".

Install "Shut Up Ir" or "Soft Ir Modem" into your desktop PC, if you use "Infrared HotSync" and "Beam Waiting for Sender" dialog is often appeared.
(You must install 3COM-IrEnhance (or IBM-IrSync and IS/Complete-IrLink), if you want to do "Infrared HotSync".)

4.How to use:

4-1.Setting for the first using:

When you use the PalmRemote for the first time, the [ Label Setting ] dialogue (Fig.1) appears.
Check the electric products that you want to control.
If there is not electric product what you want to control, check [ USER ] and input characters ( less than12 charactors ) to indicate label of dial area.
These settings can be changed at any time.

4-2.Sending infrared signal:

Select an electric products by tapping rotary dial buttons ( "<<" or ">>" ).
Tap a button and infrared signal is sent.
You need to aim at the infrared sensor window of electric product.
There is no compatibility problems between LED module designed for remote controller and infrared data transfer module (IrDA).
Directivity of infrared data transfer module is designed high, for reducing noise from the circumference,
therefore, irradiation angle of infrared ray via infrared data transfer module is very small (+/- 5degree).
The distance that infrared ray reaches is about 2m.

4-3.Actions of Graffiti command, hardware application launcher buttons and scroll buttons:

The Graffiti command, the application launcher buttons, and the scroll buttons under the graffiti area can also be used.
These are shown in Figure 2.
These operations are effective on any of the operation screens(Fig.3, Fig.4).

4-4.Operation screen view:

There are three types of operation screen.

[ Command ] designed for the big button which can be operated by a finger(Fig.4).
You can switch these operation screens by tapping a menu icon or the Graffiti commands.

4-5.Lerning function:

The theory of learning remote controller resembles the audio music tape recorder.
You can control an electric product by recording infrared signal and playing.
Infrared remote controller signal is modulated with second carrier frequency.
Frequencies that the PalmRemote can learn are 40kHz (Sony, Pioneer etc.), 38kHz(NEC,Toshiba,Hitachi,Sanyo,Fujitsu,Sharp,Panasonic,JVC etc.) and 33kHz(Mitsubishi).
The PalmRemote can not learn infrared remote controller signal using other frequency (455kHz etc.).
Tap a menu icon and a [ Button Setting] menu item (Fig.5).
Then the [ Button Setting Wizard Step1 ] dialog (Fig.6) appears.
You must tap a button that you want to customize, after tapping a [ <<Next ] button.

The [ Learning is failed ] dialog (Fig.9) appears when the PalmRemote failed in learning.
The [ Lerning Wizard Step4 ] dialog (Fig.10) appears, when learning is successful.
In case of usual learning, you only tap the [ End ] button.
When you want to set a several signals with the same button in succession, you must select a [ 500ms ] button or [ 1000ms ] for waiting next operation.
Repeat these operations until sequential learning will be end.

Tap a [ End ] button, learning function comes to end.
At this time, if you customize the command area buttons, the dialog (Fig.11) appears.
Input character ( less than12 characters ) to indicate label of command button area, and tap an [ End ] button.
