kvoice - a KDE frontend to the mgetty package

This help documentation created January, 10 for kvoice v0.1.0

This software is alpha. So don't blame me, if it crashes your harddisk or does anything else to your computer...
kvoice is a mailbox for incoming voice mails and able to handle incoming and outgoing fax messages.

It is based on the m/vgetty package by Gert Doering and Marc Eberhard so you will need to install it, to get kvoice running.

In the future, this programm will hopefully include the possibility to configure m/vgetty, but this is still a long way. So you will have to get mgetty (for fax modems) or vgetty (voice+fax) running by yourself.

Depending on the permissions of your modem device and your spool directories, you will have to run kvoice suid root. I have tried to pay attention not to introduce security hole when running kvoice suid, but nevertheless there may be some. When running kvoice suid, you will have to run kvoice once as root. kvoice will then try to guess your systems configuration (this should work for the directories, which are needed by m/vgetty). You will still have to set up the type of your modem and your normal output device for voice mails (phone or soundcard) by hand (in options->modem setup). This general configuration will be stored in $KDEDIR/share/apps/kvoice/config.

Fax sending is now supported.

Any comments, feature request or bug reports are welcome.

Have fun
